عندما تصير الذات ثمرة عصرها، وحكاية في حد ذاتها، وعندما تجد نفسها واصفة وموضوعة في آن واحد، عندئذ يكون التعبير عنها لحظة كشف واكتشاف لمجاهل الإنسان، فإذا كان هذا حال الإنسان العادي، فما بالك بحال الأديب الأكثر إحساساً بواقعه، هكذا هو حال "محمد سمارة" الأديب العراقي في "الخوذة والمطر" التي جاءت أقرب إلى أدب السيرة الذاتية، وفيها يكشف عن معاناة المثقف العراقي التي كانت ولا تزال، حال لا تعرف الإستقرار إنه كائن يحلم دائماً برؤية عالم يعثر فيه على الإستقرار والسعادة ولكن، للأسف، لا يجده إلا في ذاكرته؛ وهو في خضم صراع لا تنتهي حلقاته.
وفي هذا العمل يسجل الأديب ذكرياته مع أصدقاء عايشهم انه محمود وشاهين وغيرهم كثير عاشوا معه سنوات حرب القادسية بكل ما فيها من ابتلاءات، وألم، ففي لحظة خاطفة استشهد محمود، فأحس الأديب أن شيئاً من وهج الكلمات قد انطفأ. غير أن ثمة ناراً جديدة، وفي لحظة خاطفة ما تلبث أن توقد، ويتوهج سحر الكلمة من جديد. "فأقول: يا لمحمود الذي صار موتك شعراً: دخل القمر، واستغرقني بالدهشة/ كان قريباً، ولمسني، وجعلني هادئاً تماماً/ دخل القمر، ورشني بأغنية/ مثل مطر بعد رعد/ وعلى عتبة نافذتي كان يسكب العشق".
إنها ذروة الإحساس بالذات، ذات العراقي الجريح، التي شهدت انتقالات من أوضاع معينة إلى أخرى أشد ضراوة، فخلفت هزات اجتماعية، وسياسية، وفكرية، انعكست على أعمال مبدعين كـ "محمد سمارة" وغيره من أدباء العراق الملتزمين بقضايا وطنهم...
