من هو روبير بريسون؟ يجيب جان لوك غودار عن هذا السؤال بإيجاز مفحم قائلاً: "انه السينما الفرنسية، مثلما دوستويفسكي هو الرواية الروسية، ومثلما موزارت هو الموسيقى الألمانية. يحتل بريسون موقعاً فريداً في السينما الفرنسية، حيث يتعذر على النقاد والمؤرخين السينمائيين تصنيفه من ضمن "الحرس القديم"، كما يصعب اعتباره، في الوقت نفسه، من مجموعة "الموجة الجديدة"، ولهذا يشار إليه بإكبار بحثه الدؤوب عن تفرد في الأسلوب، وخصوصية فكرية وجمالية، من غير أن يتأثر بالسينما التي تنجرف حوله.
والكتاب الذي بين يدي القارئ هو ترجمة لكتاب بريسون القيّم الذي أصدره في العام 1975 بعنوان ولغة "الملاحظات" الاقتصادية. لكن إضافة إلى ذلك الاقتصاد، فإن كثافة (وأحياناً بساطة) ورشاقة لغته في علاقتها بالأفكار والهواجس الشفافة التي عملها، إنما تطوح بها إلى فضاءات الشعر والحلم.
