وكاتب هذا الموضوع جوزيف ماشيللي، كتب وحاضر وعمل في هذا المجال لأكثر من ربع قرن، ويعتبر كتابه "المرشد العملي للمصور" انجيل المصورين السينمائيين كما يعتبر كتابه أركان الفن السينمائي الخمسة أحد المراجع الأساسية لكل دارس لفنون التصوير أو الاخراج السينمائي. ويعالج هذا الكتاب خمسة موضوعات سينمائية هامة، كلا منها مستقلاً وهي: زاوية الكامرة، التتابع، التوليف، اللقطة القريبة، التكوين.
وقد سبق أن ترجمت جزءاً من الموضوع الأخير لما وجدت فيه من فائدة عامة تفتقدها معالجة الموضوعات الأخري التي تقتصر علي المتخصص وحده، ونشرت هذا الجزء منذ سنوات بمجلة السينما فلمست اهتماماً زائداً به، مما دفعني إلي ترجمته كاملاً ليكون في متناول القارئ العربي، راجياً أن يروى بعض تعطشه لمثل هذه المادة، التي ينعدم وجودها في مكتبتنا، أو يكاد.
