يضم الكتاب بحوثاً موضوعها المحوري يدور حول انعكاس البنية الاجتماعية الطبقية في النفس الإنسانية في حالتها الخاصة: المجتمع العربي المداد الذي كتبت فيه هذه البحوث وهي لا تنتمي إلى مدرسة محددة في علم النف رغم أنها تتقاطع من حيث المنهج وحقل الدراسة مع أكثر من مدرسة، وبالنظر إلى هذين العاملين (المنهج والحقل). فهي أقرب ما تكون إلى محاولات تنتمي إلى حقل جديد يقترح الباحث تسميته "التحليل النفسي للاستلاب أو التحليل النفسي الطبقي" ويعني بذلك تحليل الدوافع النفسية الناجمة عن تأثير الموقع الاجتماعي الطبقي الفئوي على الفرد والتي تخلق ما يسميه الباحث "الشخصية المستلبة" بالمعنى الذي سيشرحه في هذه الصفحات.
وسيكون واضحاً بالنسبة للقارئ اختلاف هذا المنظور عن كل من التحليل النفسي الفرويدي-وتفرعاته-وعلم النفس الاجتماعي بما فيه من مدارس مختلفة، حيث يدرس الكائن البشري في الحالة الأولى ككائن غريزي-بيولوجي-ذي تركيبة نفسية متشابهة لا تتأثر بالموقع الطبقي والبيئوي لصاحبها، وفي الحالة الثانية يدرس البشر كمجموعات لا كأفراد... والتباينات الأخرى سيبرزها الباحث في مواضعها المناسبة.
