أدبنا العربي الحديث ليس بمعزل عن المعركة الحضارية، بوصفه عاملاً من عوامل التحول والإرتقاء بالوعي الثقافي والإنساني، وهو - في المحصلة - جزء من التجربة العاطفية والذهنية للأمة كلها.
فلم يقف الأدب - والشعر منه موقف المنفعل حيال الحوادث والأزمات، بل تجاوز ذلك ليؤدي دوره الفاعل في مواجهة الأخطار والتحديات، ويغوص في أعماق الظواهر، وكأنه يطمح أن يمثل دور المعارضة الحقيقية، والرفض لكل أشكال الهيمنة والتطبيع، سواء على صعيد الإختراق الإمبريالي والصهيوني، أم على مستوى الأنظمة الحاكمة والفئات السلبية من الأمة.
ومن الأدباء الذين انتدبوا انفسهم لهذه المهمة الشاعر (محمد مهدي الجواهري)، فقد يلتمس الباحث في شعره قضايا خطيرة تجسد حياته وعصره، ولعل أبرزها "أزمة المواطنة"، وهي في جوهرها قضية مثيرة وحسّاسة على المستوى الحضاري والفني، تجدر أن تدخل في أوسع مشروع نقدي لأزمة الحكم في العراق والبلاد العربية.
ولعل مثل هذه القضية التي تظهر في شعر (الجواهري) من أكثر الأزمات تعقيداً في الدول المتخلفة، لما لها من تأثيرات واسعة وعميقة على عملية التنمية، وإنعكاسات سلبية على أساليب المواجهة للتحديات الكبرى، فالشعوب العربية - اليوم - تعيش في ظل أنظمة حكم قمعية، وتعاني حالة الإغتراب، لأنها مسلوبة من حق المواطنة وحقوق الإنسان وغياب العدالة والديمقراطية.
وقد اقتضى البحث دراسة لغة الأزمة في حقولها الدلالية والتشكيلات البلاغية والإيقاعية، إلى جانب تحليل شبكة الإبلاغ إلى عناصرها الرئيسة، وذلك لإظهار العلاقة بين الواقعي والفني في أبرز تجلياته.
