Mais elle choisit de sillonner le monde pour porter assistance à ses semblables, partout où ils sont fragilisés. Elle jette son dévolu sur les migrants, chassés de leur pays par la machine de guerre. Rien ni personne n'entame sa ferme volonté d'aller de l'avant, même si le monde lui présente son visage le plus monstrueux. Cet élan altruiste est momentanément concurrencé par un autre, plus intime, plus troublant. L'héroïne entretient alors une idylle avec Mokhtar, personnage sombre, vite happé par une dérive romantique inquiétante. Leur amour est-il possible ? Jazya s'interroge. C'est à ce moment-là qu’elle est kidnappée, avec un groupe de bénévoles, et séquestrée à Raqqa, fief de Daech en Syrie. Elle est alors le témoin lucide du calvaire qu'endurent des gens pris au piège de la haine. Mais après sa libération, elle n'a qu’une idée en tête : revenir à sa terre natale et accomplir, enfin, une promesse donnée aux êtres qu'elle aime. Aura-t-elle cette paix longuement convoitée ? Drôle d'odyssée pour Jazya est un roman qui réinterroge ce qu'il reste d'encore humain en nous.
