"وتساءل، وهو يصعد عبر درب جانبي بمحاذاة الجامع، لكي يغدو على بعد خطوات من بيته: أتستطيع قوة قي الأرض أن تنزع عنا ملامحنا؟ أن تغير بصمات أصابعنا؟ وقال، وهو يتذكر تحدي بعض الشيوعيين، بأنهم – لو أتيح لهم الإنتصار- فلن يبقوا على منارة واحدة في البلد يرتفع منها النداء إلى الله؛ إن الموصل اعلنت انتماءها منذ قرون إلى منارتها العالية... أخذت منها اسمها، واكتست عظامها العارية، بقوة الروح التي ثبتها، لحماً ودماً... أفيكون بمقدورهم أن يغيروا بصماتها، أو ينزعوا عنها ملامحها؟".
رواية إسلامية معاصرة، تحكي عن ملحمة الصراع بين هذا الدين وبين خصومه الذين سعوا لإعتياله، عبر دوامة الإعصار الدموي الذي اكتسح العراق عام 1959م.
