"لست من النوع الذي يتنصت على جيرانه أو يحاول كشف أسرارهم... ولكن الوضع مع جاري عادل مختلف... فذلك الطالب الهادئ الرقيق جعلني أتطفل وأرغب في معرفته أكثر. بدأت القصة عندما سكن بجواري, وهو يدرس في المعهد العالي للموسيقى... كان هادئا تأنس النفس لمرآه... وكنت ألتقي به في السلالم أو عند البقال فيجيبني في خجل وينصرف... كنت أرى خلف ابتسامته لمحة من الحزن, تخبرك أنه من تلك الأسر التي تربت في النعيم ثم أدركها فقر فبقي نقاء الأصل وهذب الفقر نفوسهم. وكان يحمل معه آلته في كل مكان. وكم رأيته في الحديقة القريبة يحضنها وينظر إلى النهر وقد رحل في عالم غير عالمنا... أمرّ قريباً منه فلا يشعر بي فأعلم أنه غارق في تأملاته... عجبت لمثله يحمل همّاً وهو في سن الإنطلاق... وظننته من النوع المتشائم في البداية, ولكن لقاءاتنا المتعددة وأحاديثنا العفوية كشفت عن نفس حرّة منشرحة... ولكن الحياء يمنعها من الخلطة... والشعور بالغربة يبقيها في عزلة. الليالي في بيتي الهادئ تجعل لدي وقتا لأتابع معزوفاته... ومع أنني لست من النوع الذي يهتم بالموسيقى وبالفنون إلا أنني كنت أحب سماع مقطوعاته... كان متقناً يجعلك مع الأنغام في عالم التأملات... عزفه الهادئ يعكس شخصيته... وإختياره الأوتار الحادة يجعلك تشعر برغبته في الصراخ كأن شيئا يؤلمه.. ولكن العجيب أنني كنت أسمعه يبكي كل ليلة, هدوء الليل في هذه المناطق... والطريقة التي تبنى فيها البيوت في المدينة يجعلانني أسمع بكاءه وأشعر بألمه وكنت أتعجب وأتطلع إلى معرفة ما يجري في غرفة ذلك الصغير... ".
قصص قصيرة تصور واقع الحياة, ضمن أسلوب يميل إلى البساطة والعفوية دون أن يلغي ذلك القدرة على التعبير بلغة عذبة ومعاني شفافة متدفقة تثير لدى القارئ مشاعر يتشارك من خلالها وشخصيات القصص أدوارهم.
