عاشت زاهية قدوره حياة عائلية راقية، ضمن بيئة ارستقراطية مترفة، إلا أنه قابلتها من ناحية ثانية، حياة عملية متعبة ومرهقة، أقلقت أحلامها، وعكرت صفو هدوئها لفترة طويلة من الوقت، بسبب ما تعرضت له وصادفته من مشاكسات في دار المعلمين العليا (الجامعة اللبنانية فيما بعد) عندما دخلت إليها لتعليم التاريخ عام 1951.
وقفت أمام هذه المشاكل بقوة وعناد، وتمكنت من التغلب عليها في معظم الأحيان، وبخاصة عندما طلب منها رئيس الدار تعليم التاريخ باللغة الفرنسية، فرفضت هذا الطلب بكل شمم وكبرياء، كما تصدت في هذه الفترة لبعض الأشخاص الذي اعترضوا على طروحاتها التربوية والتاريخية في دار المعلمين العليا، لأنها كانت ترى أهمية تدريس تاريخ العرب والمسلمين، في حين أراد هؤلاء أن تدرس التاريخ الأوروبي وباللغة الفرنسية، وبأفكار تربوية مخالفة لنهجها وتوجهاتها العربية المسلمة، وأصرت وبكل عناد على الأفكار التي كانت ترى فيها فوائد جمة للتاريخ وللبحث التاريخي، راحت تبثها بين طلابها.
الغاية الأساسية من هذا العمل، توخي إظهار الكثير من آراء هذه الشخصية اللبنانية والعربية، الوطنية والقومية، التربوية والأكاديمية، وكذلك أفكارها وثقافتها، والإشارة إلى القفزة العلمية والجامعية التي أحدثتها، سواء في أسلوبها أو في ممارستها، فضلاً عن ملامسة الجوانب العلمية والإجتماعية، وإنارة اللمسات الإنسانية التي كانت تتمتع بها.
توزعت محطات سيرتها على عدد من الفصول وخاتمة، تضمنت التعريف بجذور آل قدوره التاريخية، والبيئة الإجتماعية التي عاشت فيها وأثرت في حياتها، ثم السيرة الذاتية لزاهية قدوره، منذ الولادة حتى الفترة التي سبقت وفاتها بوقت من الزمن، وتم التطرق إلى العناوين البارزة والنقاط المهمة في الكتب التي وضعتها، وفي البحوث والدراسات التربوية والثقافية.
وكذلك الأمر تم التطرق إلى مواقفها وممارستها السياسية، في المرحلة التي تلت قيام العدوان الإسرائيلي على بيروت، في صيف العام 1982، وتأثير تداعياته على كتاباتها ومؤلفاتها وبحوثها الأخرى، وأخيراً خصص الفصل الأخير للتعرف على المسار الإجتماعي في حياتها، وخصوصاً فيما يتعلق بالنظرة التي كانت ترمق بها المرأة، والدور الذي كانت تحثها على القيام به.
