تعد الكيمياء النووية من أحد أهم فروع الكيمياء في العصر الحديث فاتجاه العالم الآن إلى الطاقة النووية يعطي الكيمياء النووية مزيداً في الأهمية في الأبحاث العلمية.
لأجل ذلك، جاء كتاب "الكيمياء الاشعاعية والنووية" لمؤلفه الدكتور فواز عزت الخليلي من الجامعة الأردنية، بمثابة دراسة علمية شاملة لما يعرف بـ " النشاط الإشعاعي، Radioactivity وتفسيرها تفسيراً علمياً، بدءاً من اكتشاف أشعة الحس (×) للعالم المعروف رونتجن في عام 1895م وغيره من علماء تابعوا خصائص هذا العلم، وأجروا تجارب علمية وأبحاث هائلة يجد القارئ لهذا الكتاب تفصيلاً لها وفق منهج علمي كامل يفيد منه المختصون في علم الذرة وسائر الطلبة في الجامعات والمراكز العلمية في البلدان العربية.
توزع الكتاب على ثماني فصول وملاحق، يحث الفصل الأول في النشاط الإشعاعي وخصائص الإسعاعات، أما الفصل الثاني فبحث في بنية النواة وطاقة الربط النووي، وعالج الفصل الثالث طرق التحلل الإشعاعي النووي، وشرح الفصل الرابع معادلات تحلل ونمو النشاط الإشعاعي، وتركز الحديث في الفصل الخامس على تفاعلات الإشعاعات مع المادة، أما أجهزة كشف وقياس الإشعاع النووي فكانت مدار الحديث في الفصل السادس من الكتاب، وبيَن الفصل السابع استخدامات النظائر المشعة في الكيمياء، ويأتي الفصل الثامن والأخير للتعريف بالقنابل النووية ومنها "القنبلة الانشطارية"، و"القنبلة الاندماجية"، و"القنبلة النيوترونية" وأضرارها. يلي ذلك ملحق (أ): بعنوان Table of Nuclides، وملحق (ب): بعنوان Chort of the Nuclides.
