في خضم الإضطرابات التي اجتاحت بلاد الشام؛ تلك المنطقة التي وقعت في شَرَك حرب أهلية امتدت أكثر من أربع سنوات، شهدت سوريا تغييراً كبيراً في مسار تلك الحرب؛ ففي منتصف سبتمبر عام 2015م قامت القوات المسلحة الروسية بنشر قواتها على طول ساحل البحر الأبيض المتوسط السوري في محافظتي اللاذقية وطرطوس، وقدّمت إلى المجتمع الدولي حشداً عسكرياً خاطفاً، وفرضته أمراً واقعاً.
يسلّط هذا الحشد الروسي الضوء على ثلاثة أنماط تكشف موقف روسيا وأهدافها الإستراتيجية على الأراضي السورية: 1-التعلّم من دروس الماضي: (أي: الآثار التي ترتّبت على تسليم مصير ليبيا إلى الغرب)، وكذلك حماية المصالح الجغرافية - الإقتصادية في سوريا، 2-تأكيد الموقف الروسي على الساحة العالمية مجدداً من خلال نشر قواتها العسكرية في منطقة البحر الأبيض المتوسط وبحر قزوين والبحر الأسود، 3-السعي إلى تجنّب التداعيات والمزيد من الإضطرابات والتقلّبات على الأراضي الروسية ذات الأغلبية المسلمة في شمال القوقاز.
