تقدّم هذه الدراسة تحليلاً موجزاً عن الإعدامات التي طالت المعتقلين السياسيين في السجون الإيرانية عام 1988م، والتي أثار الجدل حولها مرةً أخرى ذلك التسجيل الصوتي الذي نُشر على الإنترنت في شهر أغسطس عام 2016، واحتوى محادثةً بين آية ا لله حسين علي منتظري ومسؤولين رفيعي المستوى في القضاء الإيراني؛ إذ يتمّ الإعلان للمرة الأولى منذ حدوث تلك الواقعة أن هذه الإعدامات حدثت بالفعل.
وتتناول الدراسة تصريحات منتظري، ومدى إنتشار هذه القضية، وردود أفعال جميع التشكيلات السياسية، والتداعيات المحتملة للقضية داخل إيران وخارجها؛ لأن هذه التصريحات أسدلت الستار على الجدل الدائر بخصوص صحة وقوع هذه الإعدامات؛ لتصبح هذه الحادثة المشؤومة واقعاً بالفعل على الرغم من عدم توافر إحصاءات عن أعداد القتلى، أو إنتمائهم السياسي، أو حتى أمكنة دفنهم.
