يرسم لوحة سياسية لما يجري في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية, بعقلية تتجاوز التحليل البوليسي والتآمري, فيفرز بين تيار اليمين الجديد (المحافظون الجدد), وتيار التمامية المسيحية والبروتستانتية المتشددة, وبين حدود قدرة المحافظين الجدد ومسارهم الخطير كمجموعة متطرفة سياسياً وفلسفياً. ويتجاوز الكتاب ذلك إلى تحليل وعرض الاستراتيجية الأمريكية الجديدة، التي رسمها البيت الأبيض في الشهر التاسع من العام 2002, والتي على أساس فهمها يحلل أبعاد الاحتلال الأمريكي للعراق باعتباره محاولة لتكرار مشهد ضرب نكازاكي وهيروشيما لحسم تشكيلة النظام العالمي الجديد على أساس أحادي القطبية . ويتخلى الكتاب عن الدعوات الإيديولوجية والتصورات التأملية كي يرسم صورة للمستقبل لا تبدو للناظر الذي استكان أمام مشهد هزيمة واضحة أو معقولة, ولكنه لا يعتمد أسلوب التحريض أو التعبئة, فالهدف هو دائماً العقل كي ندخل العصر وكي نفهم فلا نؤخذ ولا نستسلم.
