شغلت الطائفية الدينية والسياسية منذ أمد طويل محاضرات واجتماعات المجالس النيابية في لبنان، واتخذ التمييز الطائفي بين أفراد الشعب اللبناني كعامل لإثارة الفتن والتناحر بينهم. ولقد عمد الدستور على تكريس الطائفية وتأصيلها في قوانينه ومواده. ومن هنا جاءت محاضر جلسات مجلس النواب مفعمة بالأقوال والمناقشات التي تعالج موضوع الطائفية.
وهذا الكتاب التوثيقي يشتمل على مجموعة مختارة لفقرات مقتبسة من أقوال عدد وافٍ من النواب اللبنانيين مستلة من محاضر جلسات النواب للفترة الزمنية الواقعة بين 1926 و1984 تتناول موضوع الطائفية الواسع الأبعاد، ومن جميع نواحيه الإيجابية والسلبية، بما في ذلك منح العائلات الروحية المتعددة البالغ عددها 16 طائفة، ضمانات كافلة وليس امتيازات مفرقة.
