في هذا الكتاب كلام جميل من الحياة الطيبة بقلم "محمد جميل العظم" كان قد نشرها تحت عنوان "الحياة الطيبة" في سلسلة مقالات في مجلة "الرابطة الإسلامية" الصادرة في دمشق سنة (1350- 1351هـ).
وفي هذه المقالات يقدم المؤلف وجهات نظر مختلفة في الحياة وعلاقة الإنسان بأخيه الإنسان والإجتماع الإنساني عامة "الإجتماع الصحيح يتوقف على تربية العقل تربية صحيحة؛ وأعني بالتربية الصحيحة تربية الإحساس المتصرف بالعقل على الإعتدال…
أنني أكتب وأنا متيقن أنني متيقن أنني لا أستطيع ولا يستطيع أحد أن يحول الأفكار والآراء عن مجاريها وإخراجها عن الطرق التي ألفتها والعادات التي مرنت عليها، ذلك لأنها مختلفة في شكل الحياة الطيبة وماهية السعادة...".
وفي هذا السياق يقدم المؤلف رأيه في "الماديين اللادينييّن ونظرياتهم" ويناقش أفكارهم وينقضها في بعض الأحيان أمثال سبنسر وكونت وباسكال وآخرون، كما يتعرض إلى المذاهب والطوائف الأخرى "متبعوا مذهب جهلة الطبيعيين اليونانين القدماء، الذين ظهروا في أواخر القرن الرابع قبل الميلاد، وكان على رأسهم (ديوجانس) المعروف بالكلبي"، ومثله "مزدك" الفارسي، وغيرهم من فرق الباطنية والقرامطة والبابكية من الفرق الضالة ثم يذكر رؤوسائهم في الضلالة في القرن الثاني وما بعده وهم كثيرون...
ويختتم الكتاب بقوله: "والخلاصة أن اللادينين الذين اتخذوا اللعب واللهو بالمادة ديناً، وغرتهم الحياة الدنيا، كانوا ولا يزالون عقبة في سبيل السائرين إلى الحياة الطيبة بالإيمان...".
