هذا كتاب "عقود الجوهر في تراجم من لهم خمسون تصنيفاً فمئة فأكثر" للعلامة الاديب اللغوي جميل بن مصطفى العظم الدمشقي، عضو المجمع العلمي العربي بدمشق، وصاحب مجلة "البصائر" وأحد كبار العارفين في عصره، المولود في الآستانة سنة (1290هـ)، والمتوفى في دمشق سنة (1352هـ).
وقد بين المؤلف في مقدمة كتابه الباعث له على تأليفه، فقال: "... فقد خطر لي أثناء اشتغالي بجمع "ذيل كشف الظنون"، أن افرد في كتاب تراجم العلماء الذين بلغت مصنفاتهم الخمسين والمئة، فصاعداً، فشرعت في ذلك مستعيناً بالله تعالى، وأفردت ترجمة كلٍّ منهم في رسالةٍ وضعت لها اسماً مختصاً بها، ثم جمعت من تلك الرسائل في سفر سميته: عقد الجوهر".
في ضوء ما سبق قسم المؤلف كتابه إلى قسمين: القسم الأول: في تراجم من لهم مئةُ تأليفٍ فأكثر: وعد منهم ثمانية وعشرين عالماً، وهم: الغزالي، وابن عربين وابن الجوزي، والنابلسي، والسيد مصطفى البكري... وآخرون..
أما القسم الثاني فجاء في: تراجم من لهم خمسون تأليفاً فأكثر: وعد منهم اثني عشر عالماً، وهم: أبقراط، ورفس الكبير، وأبو القاسم الزمخشري، وعلي بن أبي طالب... وآخرون.
هذا، وقد عرّفت المؤلف بصاحب كل ترجمة من العلماء المؤلفين وبمؤلفاتهم موزعاً عناوين الكتب على حروف المعجم بحسب الترتيب الألفبائي لحروف اللغة العربية مع الإشارة إلى مصادر كل تصنيف ونسبته إلى مؤلفه.
