في هذا الكتاب يدرس الدكتور إياد مطشر صيهود "مدى مشروعية التطويع العلاجي للجينات الوراثية البشرية" وذلك من خلال التطرق إلى المشاكل ثم إمكانية إيجاد الحلول القانونية والشرعية التي يمكن أن تنجم عن هذه الثورة البيولوجية وتقنياتها، وهي دراسة حديثة لم يسبق من قبل أن تعرض لها الباحثون سواء على صعيد القانون الوضعي أو على صعيد الشريعة الإسلامية الغراء، خاصة أن تقنيات العلاج الجيني هي واحدة من علوم (الهندسة الوراثية) وتطبيقاتها في نطاق الطب الوراثي، لذلك كان لا بد من إيضاح حقيقة ما يحدث في البيولوجيا المعاصرة وكيفية تعامل القانون الوضعي والشريعة الإسلامية معها. من هنا حاول المؤلف أن يصنف عدداً كبيراً من الحقائق الأساسية بطريقة مبسطة للقارىء وعلمية بنفس الوقت ما يعني تفصيل هذه التقنية أي الهندسة الوراثية في إيجابياتها وسلبياتها وعرضها على بساط البحث والنقاش والإستفادة منها في خدمة الإنسان "إن الهدف من علم الوراثة هو تفهم كل ما يتعلق بظاهرة الحياة بغرض التحكم فيها لصالح الجنس البشري إن كان التحكم ممكناً لزيادة رفاهية الإنسان، وتحسين نسله". وللإحاطة بهذا الموضوع "تقنيات العلاج الجيني " قسّم المؤلف عمله على فصول أربعة يسبقها تمهيد، يتكفل الفصل الأول ببيان المفهوم العلمي لهذه التقنيات، بينما يتكفل الفصل الثاني باستعراض التطور التاريخي لعلم الوراثة في الحضارات الشرقية والغربية، أما الفصل الثالث فبحث في الأساس القانوني لتقنيات العلاج الجيني، في حين اختص الفصل الرابع ببيان الأساس الشرعي لهذه التقنيات في القرآن والسّنة الشريفة وأقوال علماء الدين. وأخيراً خاتمة ونتائج الدراسة.
