منذ أن نشأت دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة وظهرت على خريطة العالم السياسية وحتى الوقت الراهن، وهي تواجه سلسلة صعبة وخطرة من التحديات. ومما زاد هذه التحديات صعوبة أن بعضها يضرب بجذوره في عمق مجتمع الإمارات، ويرمي بتأثيراته على جوانب الحياة المختلفة في الدولة. وقد أثبتت المعطيات التاريخية ومجريات الأحداث الراهنة أن هذه التحديات يمكن أن تقوض استقرار المنطقة إن لم يتم مواجهتها بحكمة وإرادة، إذ إن التغلب عليها أصبح ضرورة قصوى لكي تتخطى المنطقة بأسرها امتحان الاستقرار السياسي، ومن ثم امتحان التنمية المستدامة الصعب.
وهذه الدراسة تهدف إلى إلقاء الضوء على التحديات الراهنة ذات الجذور التاريخية التي تواجه دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة. فعلى الرغم من أن التحديات التي تواجه دولة الإمارات عديدة ومتنوعة، فإن هذه الدراسة سوف تلقي الضوء فقط على تلك التي لها جذور غائرة في الماضي. وبالإضافة إلى ما سبق، تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى تسليط الضوء على التأثيرات الجانبية لهذه التحديات والتي لا تزال ترمي بظلالها الكثيفة على مختلف جوانب الحياة في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة وعلى حركة تشكيل التاريخ والمجتمع، وسوف تختتم هذه الدراسة بتقديم بعض الحلول التي من خلال توظيفها يمكن للدولة أن تتلافى السلبيات الخطيرة التي تفرزها هذه التحديات.
