ما أنفك الباحثون في نظرية الأدب، من جهة، ومنطق الحجاج، من جهة ثانية، يكتشفون - طوال النصف الثاني من القرن الماضي - مدى التداخل بين ميداني إشتغالهما، ثم يكتشف المحققون منهم، بدهشة يشويها الإعجاب والإرتياح، أن هنا علماً عتيقاً كان يهتم بالخطاب في كليته؛ في بعديه التخييلي الأدبي، والحجاجي المنطقي، وهو البلاغة، وبذلك عاد البحث البلاغي إلى الواجهة مستفيداً من المنجزات العلمية في المجال اللساني والفلسفي المنطقي.
ربما لا تطرح كلمة البلاغة في السياق العربي إشكالاً في كونها علم الخطاب الإحتمالي بنوعية التخييلي والتداولي، وذلك نتيجة الدمج الذي مارسه، في المرحلة الثانية من تاريخها، كل من عبد القاهر الجرجاني وابن سنان الخفاجي، ثم دعمه السكاكي وحازم القرطاجني.
أما في الثقافة الغربية فإن الكلمة المقابلة لكلمة "بلاغة" العربية، حالياً، أي ريطوريك (rhétorique, rhetoric)، تتردد بين ثلاثة مفاهيم كبرى: المفهوم الأرسطي الذي يُخصِّصها لمجال الإقناع وآلياته، والمفهوم الأدبي الذي يجعلها بحثاً في صور الأسلوب، والمفهوم النسقي الذي يسعى لجعل البلاغة علماً أعلى يشمل التخييل والتداول معاً.
وهذا المفهوم الثالث هو مجال الإستكشاف الذي نضعه اليوم بين يدي القارئ العربي الذي ما زال يجتر بؤس تردي البلاغة.
