والبروفسور غاستون بوتول ذو تصانيف في علم الاجتماع كثيرة معتبرة ألمع فيها إلى ابن خلدون وآرائه في كل مناسبة، ومن بين هذه الكتب ما اشتمل على عدة صفحات بحثاً في مقدمة ابن خلدون، ولبوتول كتاب مستقل سماه "ابن خلدون، فلسفته الاجتماعية" ألفه سنة 1930، وقد قرأناه غير مرة، فوجدناه ينطوي على عناية عظيمة بابن خلدون مع عمق في التفكير والتحليل وروح نفاذ في التدقيق، وفي الكتاب يرى ما يعز وجوده عند غيره، أحياناً، من النزاهة والاعتدال، فحملنا هذا على نقله إلى العربية رداً لتحية مؤلفه، وإطلاعاً على ما يحتويه من فوائد تاريخية رائعة ومعارف اجتماعية طريفة وافرة".
