تبدو شخصية ابن خلدون ماثلة حاضرة في نظريته التربوية، القيم التي حكمته وطرائقية، وتصوراته عن الإنسان، والعقيدة الدينية، وأحكامه على الأطوار والأعمار والطبائع الكلية، أو على الاقتصاد (الصناعات) والعلوم، كل ذلك صادر عن جهاز واحد ومدرسة يبرز من أتباعها ابن الأزرق كواحد من القادرين على توضيح ابن خلدون، وينطوي هذا العمل الذي يضمه الكتاب الذي نقلب صفحاته الجزء المهم من أعلام الفلسفة العملية (ابن خلدون، ابن الأزرق) وجاء ذلك ضمن قسمين، تضمن القسم الأول دراسة في السيرة الذاتية، لابن خلدون لأنه من الضروري أن تؤخذ مصطلحاته وأعماله، فكره أو وعيه وممارساته، غير منفصلة عن تجربته في الحياة والمجتمع، وعن تفاعل الوضع العام مع الخبرات الشخصية ومطامح الفرد وتطور قيمه.
أما الفصل الثاني فقد انصب على تحليل المذهب التربوي لابن خلدون، في الفصل الثالث تُقرأ نظرية ابن خلدون في الطرائقيات وحيث أجهزة التفكير، والمحاكمة للعلم، ودرجات العقل، وفلسفة العلم، و"قانون" السنن الكلية، ومبدأ المبادئ، أو جهاز ومنطق "طبائع العمران"، وتوقف المؤلف في القسم الثاني من هذا الكتاب عند ابن الأزرق، أمام "مذهبه" في التحصيل والتعليم، وفي التربويات: صناعتها، موادها، طرائقها، ارتباطها بالعمران، أو بنمط المجتمع، تأثر بالعلوم السائدة وبالدين، التفاعل بين الصناعات أو وجوه الكسب والمعاش والرزق.
