لا تستدعي دراسة مؤلفات مؤرخ من المؤرخين ان نقص حتما سيرة حياته تفصيلا ولا ان نمعن التأمل طويلا في تفاصيلها واذا ما كان المؤرخ قد كتب تاريخا اخباريا او حوليا واذا ما اقتصر على سرد الاحداث كما تقول بها الروايات الاقليمية او المحلية .. او اذا ما درس وجمع وثائق عصر ما ليجعل منها قصة كاملة فإنه لا يكون لتقلبات حياته سوى اهمية سندية .. وتلك حال ابن خلدون اذا لم ننظر الا الى الجزء التاريخي الخالص من مؤلفاته وهو جزء يعد وحده مفخرة باهرة فلولا ما كتب ابن خلدون في التاريخ لجهلنا اليوم ما كان عليه تاريخ افريقيا الشمالية منذ الفتح الاسلامي حتى القرن الرابع عشر وكل من شاء ان يوجد استمرارا بين الامبراطورية الرومانية اي بين العصر البيزنطي والعصور الحديثة كل من شاء ان يفعل ذلك فسيعتمد لا محالة - لولا ابن خلدون - على الافتراضات ولولا ابن خلدون لما كانت لدينا العناصر اللازمة لتكوين فكرة صحيحة الى حد ما عما كانت عليه افريقيا الشمالية خلال الفترة الوحيدة التي انعزلت فيها اذ لم تعد لها غير صلات نظرية مع شعوب اخرى ...
