يعتبر هذا الكتاب الأول في موضوعه من حيث جمع المادة وتبويبها، لكنه ليس البكر، أي أن مادته مستمدة من كتب النحو المشهورة ولا سيما "مغني النسب" و"الجني الداني" و"وصف المباني" وقد عرض لمادته بأسلوب سهل وواضح. ورفد بشواهد كثيرة من القرآن الكريم مع الشعر القديم.
وقد تم إجراء تعديل طفيف على هذا الكتاب لأن الأدوات الزائدة وشبه الزائدة لا تزيد مع تقدم الأيام، فهي عشرون أداة عند القدماء وما زالت، وقد أصاب التعديل الأداة نفسها فتوسع الكلام عليها من خلال كثرة الشواهد التي أضيفت، وكانت الشواهد من الأبيات المئة التي أثبتت في نهاية الطبعة الأولى للتطبيق، عسى أن يصل الطالب إلى الإعراب الذي لا يزال يظنه من المواد الصعبة.
