الأدوات قسمٌ من أقسام الكلام، وضرورة من ضرورات ربطه، وتحقيق الإنسجام فيه وقد حظيت منذ القدم بعناية العلماء وإهتمامهم، وكانت بدايتهم مع معاني هذه الأدوات حين أخذ المفسرين وعلماء اللغة يفضّلون المعاني المختلفة للأداة الواحدة في النصوص القرآنية ثمّ تطوّر هذا العلم وارتقى، حتى استقل بميدانه الخاص، ولم يقصر عنايته على المعاني فقط بل تجاوزها إلى بنية الأداة، وأوجه إستعمالها، وأحكامها النحوية.
وعندما بدأت التفكير بعنوان يكون موضوعاً لأطروحة أتقدّم بها إستكمالاً لمتطلبات الحصول على درجة الدكتوراه في اللغة والنحو، اقترح عليّ أستاذي الأستاذ الدكتور / حنّا بن جميل حدّاد عنوان (الخلاف النحوي في الأدوات) الذي لفى هوىّ في نفسي، ورأيتني قادراً على تقديم عمل فيه قد يمثل إضافة لما كُتب في موضوع الأدوات، ولا سيما أنّ مكتبنا العربية ما زالت حتى اليوم خاليةً من هذا العنوان.
أمّا الذي شجعني على الإقدام على هذا الموضوع فهو أنّ علماءنا الأوائل كانوا قد تناولوا في مؤلفاتهم هذه الأدوات بالتفسير والإيضاح، كما نرى عند سيبويه في (الكتاب) والمبرَّد في (المقتضب)، والفراء في (معاني القرآن).
ولعلّ أول مؤلَّف متخصص في هذا المجال وصل إلينا هو (حروف المعاني) للزجاجي (ت 340هــ)، وله أيضاً (اللامات)، ثم تلاه (منازل الحروف) (ومعاني الحروف) للرماني (ت 388هــ) غير أنّ أهم ما كُتب في هذا المجال - بإعتقاد الباحث - أربعة مؤلفات هي: الأزهية في علم الحروف للهروي (ت 415هــ)، ورصف المباني في شرح حروف المعاني للمالقي (ت 702هــ)، والجنى الداني في حروف المعاني للمرادي (ت 749هــ)، ومغني اللبيب عن كتب الأعاريب لابن هشام الأنصاري (ت 761هــ) وعندما تَنقُل هذه المصادر وغيرها الأدوات، تنقلها محملةً بإختلافات شتى بين العلماء، يصعد بعضها للخليل بن أحمد الفراهيدي (ت 175هــ)، وتنسب جلها لنحاة البصرة والكوفة.
