كان "مولى أبى جعفر المنصور"، المعروف بأبي العيناء صاحب النوادر والشعر الأدب من أحفظ الناس وأفصحهم لساناً، وكان من ظرفاء العالم، وفيه من اللسن وسرعة الجواب والذكاء ما لم يكن في أحد من نظرائه، وله أخبار حسان وأشعار ملامح مع أبى علي الضرير وغيره، وفي هذا الكتاب يجمع المؤلف بعضاً من نوادر أبى العيناء التي حملت الكثير من أخباره، عكست روح الفكاهة ونكهة الدعابة البديهية لديه، وهدف المؤلف في جمع هذه النوادر وهو إمتاع القارئ وتسليته ببعض الفكاهات العربية القديمة، المحملة بروح الفصاحة العربية والأدبية.
لا يخلو أي تجمع إنساني من ذلك الشخص الطريف الذي وهبه الله البديهة والحساسية النقدية المرهفة، التي تجعله يلتقط أحداث الحياة وأحوالها العادية فتتحول على يديه إلى ضحك.
وتاريخنا العربي، حافل بهذه الشخصيات المرحة الطريفة التي أبدعت ونسج الناس حولها الكثير من الطرائف والنوارد، المفعمة بروح النقد الاجتماعية والخلقي والأدبي والسياسي.
