عندما فكّرت بإصدار هذا الكتاب، كان هدفي الأساسي هو العمل على تبرئة كامل الحسين من تهم كثيرة أُلصقت به زوراً وبهتاناً، في فترة كانت حبلى بالتطورات التي أنجبت في ما بعد نكبة فلسطين. كان الباعث على فكرة الكتاب، لحظة شعور بالتقصير في حقِّ \"عمّي\"، الذي مرّت على اغتياله إحدى وستون سنة، من دون أن يتجرّأ أحد من الكتاب والمؤرخين الفلسطينيين أو العرب، على إنصاف زعيم الحولة الأكبر شأناً في فترة ما بين العشرينيات والأربعينيات من القرن الماضي . وقد عزّز من رغبتي في الكتابة، ما قرأته عن الزعيم كامل الحسين اليوسف في العديد من المؤلفات الأجنبية، الأمر الذي ترك أثراً في نفسي، وجعلني أكثر إصراراً على تنفيذ رغبتي، وفاء لروحه الطاهرة، وإماطة للثام عن الكثير من الحقائق التي بقيت في خزائن الذاكرة، عن الرجل \"اللغز\" الذي تعاون مع الانتداب البريطاني، وهادن الاستيطان الصهيوني، ثم قاومه على طريقته، وعقد شبكة تحالفات مع العديد من الزعماء العرب، وكان همّه الأول والأخير الحفاظ على أرض الحولة لأبنائها . قاوم كامل الحسين الاحتلال الصهيوني لبلاده بالقوة المدنية حيناً، وبالسلاح حيناً آخر. وسعى بدهاء لا ينكره أحد، إلى محاولة كسب الوقت، في زمن كان يعرف أن \"العين لا يمكن أن تقاوم المخرز\"، إلى أن تحين الساعة. لم يكن كامل الحسين زعيماً على منطقة الحولة وحسب، بل كان نفوذه يمتد إلى أقاصي جبل عامل في عمق جنوب لبنان، حيث لايزال الكثيرون من أبناء العائلات الكبرى يعتبرونه زعيمهم. ومما لا شك فيه، إن كامل الحسين لعب دوراً ملتبساً، لم يفهم أبعاده كثيرون، في وقت خشي آخرون من مفاعيله. لقد شكّل عقبة أمام توسيع رقعة الاستيطان الصهيوني باتجاه الحولة، عبر تصدّيه لعمليات بيع الأراضي للصهاينة وعملائهم، كما شكّل عقبة أمام مشاريع التسوية بين بعض العرب وبريطانيا ومعها حركة الاستيطان اليهودي. وهكذا تقاطعت المصالح، فكان الاغتيال بعد ظهر يوم الثلاثاء، العاشر من أيار/ مايو 1949، لتطوى مع غياب كامل الحسين صفحة \" الزحف السلمي\" الذي كانت ساعته الصفر، عند مغيب ذلك اليوم، للانطلاق نحو استعادة أرض الحُولة التي احتلها الصهاينة بالسلاح والدم. كامل الحسين.. لم يرْحَمه تقاطع المصالح !! فهل يُنصفه التاريخ؟؟
