هذا الكتاب لا يُقدِّم حلولاً للمشكلات التي تعاني منها البلدان العربية، كذلك هو لا يقدِّم حلاً للمصاعب التي تواجه البلدان الأوروبية؛ إنما يُقدم طريقة للتفكير بهذه المشكلات. يمكن أن نسمي هذه الطريقة بالطريقة الجدلية، وهي جدلية من وجهين: فأولاً تعتمد الجدل والنقاش، كما يبدو في طريقة تدريس وإلقاء الدكتور ساندل مؤلف الكتاب، وهي طريقة شديدة الشبه بالتجاهل السقراطي، الذي يظهر في المحاورات الأفلاطونية. حيث يستدرج السائل المناقش لتفنيد نفسه من خلال طرح سلسلة من الأسئلة والأمثلة. ومن ثم هي جدلية من جهة العلاقة التي تُقيمها بين المبدأ والواقع، حيث يتبادلان تقويم بعضهما البعض.
أيضاً يقدم الكتاب طريقة في قراءة المدونات الفلسفية الكبرى، ووصلها بالواقع، وتطبيقها على الطوارئ والمشكلات التي تواجهنا، وتستوجب تفكيرًا واضحًا ورائقًا، وتصورًا لجميع أوجه المسائل، ووزنًا لأثرها الأخلاقي.
