يضم هذا الكتاب جملة من الحوارات مع باحثين ومؤرخين أجانب وعرب وسوريين كنا قد أجريناها على عقدين من الزمن تقريباً.
والحقيقة أنني لم افكر يوماً في ضم هذه الحوارات في كتاب، إلا أن آراء بعض الأصدقاء والمهتمين جعلتني أجمعها في هذا الكتاب.
وقد جاءت هذه الحوارات في سياق عملي الصحفي عبر حضور المؤتمرات الدولية التي عنت الحضارة السورية بكافة أوجهها ومراكزها وفاعليتها.
لذا فإن كل ماسنقرؤه هو حصيلة جهد امتد لحوالي عشرين عاماً تقريباً ابتدأ منذ عام 1989 وحتى 2007، مع الأخذ بعين الاعتبار لعامل الزمن، حيث أن هذه الحوارات سواء في أسئلتها أو أجوبتها هي ابنة تاريخها، لا سيما وأننا في حقل الآثار والتاريخ في المشرق العربي، نحن أمام معطيات متجددة دائماً.
أيضاًن لا يعني هذا الأمر أننا لم نتقصد في الحوارات تلك مناقشة البنى والمعايير والإصطلاحات التي تشكل رائز مطلق حضارة، لهذا نجد أنفسنا نتدخل في محاولة لهز راكد البديهيات التي وشحت الدراسات والأدبيات التاريخية لحضارتنا.
