يعالج هذا الكتاب تاريخ وحضارة أقدم مملكة قامت في سورية ألا وهي مملكة إبلا، التي ترقى بدايات نشوئها الى الألف الرابع قبل الميلاد. وبلغت درجة كبيرة من الازدهار في النصف الثاني من الألف الثالث قبل الميلاد. وذلك عندما شملت بسلطتها كل شمال سورية، وامتدت علاقاتها السياسية والاقتصادية والثقافية الى بلاد الرافدين في الشرق وقبرص في الغرب ووادي النيل في الجنوب. يتحدث الكتاب عن كل الأحداث والتطورات التي مرت خلال هذه الفترة، مركزاً بشكل أساسي على عصري ازدهار إبلا، عصر الأرشيف الملكي، وعصر السلالات الأمورية، معتمداً بشكل رئيسي على نصوص الأرشيف الملكي والمكتشفات الأثرية التي تمت، وعلى الأبحاث والدراسات التخصصية التي صدرت حتى الآن باللغات الأجنبية المختلفة، متبعاً في ذلك المنهج العلمي الصحيح البعيد عن الخيال وحاولة إيجاد براهين وأدلة على صدق نظريات موضوعة مسبقاً.
