يبين الكتاب أن المأزق الذي يلف القضية الفلسطينية يحول دون التوصل الى حل يرتكز على مبادىء العدل و الحقوق الإنسانية, و وضع قضية اللاجئين الفلسطينيين التي تشكل لب الصراع مرة أخرى في مكانها المركزي الذي لها في داخل القضية الفلسطينية شرط أساسي لتجاوز ذلك المأزق. إن انسداد عملية التسوية السلمية دليل إضافي على ضرورة إعادة النظرفي الاستراتيجيات المتصلة بهذا الجانب لتأخذ موضوعة اللاجئين بعين الاعتبار. كما أن قيام إسرائيل باقتطاع أجزاء كبيرة من أراضي الضفة الفلسطينية و القطاع باسم الأمن الاستراتيجي و الاستيطان, و تحويل أراضي ولاية السلطة الفلسطينية الى جزر محاصرة, و معزولة عن بعضها, و القيام بتأسيس نظام أبارتايد قائم على الفصل بين بشريتين و إنسانيتين من السادة و العبيد يشكل حافزاً قوياً لإعادة النظر في معطيات التسوية السلمية. و ستبقى تلك التسوية متعثرة ما لم تأخذ مداها الحقوقي و الإنساني, و ذلك باستقدام و دمج ملايين الفلسطينيين المقيمين في الشتات و عودتهم الى بيوتهم و مدنهم و قراهم. و يبحث الكتاب في الفصول التالية: المكان و الوطن حدود الكلمات المجوفة, الشقاء و سياسة الشقاء, الوجه الآخر للصورة, هذا السلام المستحيل: عن تناقضات عملية أوسلو.
