تعتبر قضية فلسطين هي إحدى أهم قضايا العالم التي لازمت القرن العشرين فقد بدأت مع بداياته, لكنها لم تنته بانتهائه, وما نزال نشهد فصولاً جديدة من نضال الشعب الفلسطيني وعلى مدى أكثر من خمسين عاماً, من أجل العودة الى وطنه وإنشاء دولته المستقلة. لن يتحقق أو يستقيم سلام ما دامت هناك أراضٍ عربية محتلة, وما دام هناك لاجئون لا يعودون الى أراضيهم, وتعتبر قضية اللاجئين الفلسطينيين من أعقد المشاكل في الصراع العربي الصهيوني, ورغم أنها مشكلة أساسية في هذا الصراع, إلا أنها وضعت دائماً في آخر جداول أعمال المؤتمرات ومفاوضات السلام, لأن عودة اللاجئين الى وطنهم تعني دائماً بالنسبة للإسرائيليين عدم شرعية وجودهم هم على تلك الأرض أولاً, وزوال كيانهم المصطنع ثانياً. وفي هذا الكتاب حاول المؤلف أن يبحث في قضية في قضية اللاجئين الفلسطينيين وعلاقتها بعملية سلام الشرق الأوسط, عبر إيجاد حلول ومقترحات مثل العودة والتعويضات والتوطين. ومن موضوعات الكتاب: تطور الهوية السياسية, وجهات نظر فلسطينية جديدة, الفلسطينيون في الضفة الغربية وغزة, الفلسطينيون في الشتات, إمكانية الحل, مستقبل الأونروا واللاجئين.
