تظل مشكلة اختيار النصوص للترجمة مشكلة قائمة مع اختلاف مجموعات الطلاب التي تتلقى دروس الترجمة. ومن اليسير أن يختار أستاذ الترجمة نصوصًا لطلابه ولكن من غير اليسير أن تناسب هذه النصوص هؤلاء الطلاب. وإن كانت النصوص التي معنا في هذا الكتاب قد جربت في دروس سابقة في الترجمة في الأماكن التي عملت فيها بتدريس الترجمة، داخل وخارج مصر، إلا أن قضية مستوى المتلقي تظل قائمة: هل تناسب هذه النصوص طلاب السنة الرابعة لهذا العام 2005/ 2006م أم لا؟
ويحاول هذا الكتاب من خلال أجزائه الأربعة أن يقدم منهجًا جديدًا في تدريس الترجمة من وإلى العربية معتمدًا على خبرة لا بأس بها في تدريس الترجمة والعمل بها وفيها.
وقد بلغت النصوص الإنجليزية التي سيتدرب عليها الطالب في الترجمة إلى العربية ثمانية عشر نصًا، أما النصوص العربية التي سيتدرب عليها الطالب في الترجمة إلى اللغة الإنجليزية ثمانية وأربعين نصًا. وليس للكثرة- المتعمدة- هدف سوى محاولة التعرف على المشاكل في النص العربي من خلال نصوص قصيرة يستطيع الطالب من خلالها أن يقوم بتفكيك النص العربي ثم إعادة بنائه مرة ثانية، ولكن من خلال الترجمة إلى الإنجليزية.
