يبحث هذا الكتاب بالتراث الصوفي الحافل بالنصوص النثرية والشعرية ويقترب من فلك الإشكالية القائمة ما بين الذوق والجمال الصوفيين والتعبير عنهما باللغة، ويعرض لآراء الصوفيون وسبب تعمدهم الغموض في التعبير، صوناً لحقيقة ما وراء كلامهم، فلا يصل لفهمها إلا من هم أهلها أي تعمُدهم الإشكال، أمثال ابن عرب في رسالة له، تكاد تكون مخصصة للدفاع عن الحجاب الذي ترتديه النصوص الصوفية، والتي جعلها في كتاب بعنوان (كتاب الغناء في المشاهدة) ويقول فيها عن الصوفيون أنهم "الساترون لهذه الأسرار في ألفاظ اصطلحوا عليها غيرةً من الأجانب".
وجدير بالذكر أن صون الحقيقة عن غير أهلها، إنما يتضمن صون المصرخين بها أيضاً، فمصارع أو نهاية بعض أعلام رجال التصوف ماثلة في تاريخ الإسلام والحلاج واحد منهم الذي باح بما لا ينبغي البوح به.
في ضوء ما سبق يعرض هذ الكتاب جهد الدارسون للنصوص الصوفية وإشكالية التعبير الصوفي في أسبابها وأنواعها بغرض فهمها وإستجلاء غوامضها وخاصة تلك النصوص التي عرفت بــ "الطواسين" نسبة إلى الحلاج الذي لاقى مصير مروع لتجربة روحية مرّ بها.
وعليه، سيكون القارئ أمام إشكالية كبيرة يتساءل فيها لماذا حوكم الحلاج، ولماذا اتهم ابن عربي في عقيدته، ولماذا كتب ابن رشد (تهافت التهافت) وما سبب إفتاء ابن تيمية بما أفتى؟...
