تحت عنوان "الإمام علي والنبي يوشع عليهما السلام تاريخ يعيد نفسه" يعقد مؤلف الكتاب السيد جعفر مرتضى العاملي مقارنة لأحداث جرت في حقبتين تفصل بينهما المئات من السنين وذلك من خلال التبحر في قراءة نصوص ثابتة عن الرسول والأئمة عليهم السلام التي تؤكد على أنه سيكون في هذه الأمة من الأحداث الكبرى ما كان في الأمم السالفة، متيمناً بحديث الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم حين قال للناس "لتركبن سنن من كان قبلكم، شبراً بشبر، وذراعاً بذراع، حتى لو أن أحكم دخل جحر ضب لتبعتموهم (لدخلتم)..." أو نحو ذلك.
وفي الكتاب يستعرض المؤلف أحاديث وروايات يربط معنها بما ورد في القرآن الكريم ومنها الآية الكريمة "فلما جاوزا قال لفتاه آتنا غداءنا لقد لقينا من سفرنا هذا نصباً"؛ في إشارة إلى فتى موسى يوشع بن نون، وهو فتاه الذي ذكره الله في كتابه.
ويفعل ذلك المؤلف للتأكيد على أن لكل نبي وحي فيورد حديثاً عن "محمد بن العباس... قال: سبق الناس ثلاثة: يوشع صاحب موسى عليه السلام إلى موسى، وصاحب يس إلى عيسى عليه السلام، وعلي بن أبي طالب إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم".
وهكذا يستمر المؤلف في حديث التشابه إلى ما بعد يوشع وعلي عليهما السلام في محاولة لإبراز أن أوصياء نبي الله محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم وآله، والأئمة من بعده كانوا إثني عشر إماماً وآخرهم المهدي...
