كل امرئ يذهب إلى الله بأسلوبه الخاصّ متأثراً بطبعه وواقعه وخبرته، والقدّيسون مؤسِّسوا الرهبانيات لا يختلفون عن سواهم من البشر، وإذا ما حدَّدوا هدفاً وغايةً لجماعتهم عكسوا عليهما، عن قصدٍ أو غير قصد، شخصيتهم.
وهذه الطريقة التي بها يصلون إلى الله هي روحانيتهم، ومن هذا القبيل ما تتميز به روحانية إغناطيوس من شدة التعلق بشخصية يسوع المسيح فهو الذي قال له "أريد أن تتخذه رفيقاً لك فأجاب إغناطيوس: "أريد أن تخدمنا"، ومن ذاك الحين أراد أن يسمي رفاقه بإسم "جماعة يسوع"، فأصبحوا "رفقاء يسوع".
عن القديس إغناطيوس دي لويولا مؤسس اليسوعيين يكتب الأب كميل حشيمه اليسوعي في هذا الكتاب متتبعاً حياته منذ ولادته (1491) ي مدينة من بلاد الباسك في شمال إسبانيا، وحتى تطويب الكنيسة له ورفعه إلى مرتبة القديسيين 1622م، وعمله في خدمة الإنسان، حيث يقدم الكتاب نصوصاً بقلم القديس إغناطيوس من كتاب "الرياضيات الروحية" ورسائله إلى الأبوين لاينث وسالمرون حينما عينهما البابا بوليس الثالث لاهوتيين له في المجمع التريدنتي المسكونيّ سنة 1546، وكذا مقتبسات من رسالة له إلى يسوعييّ البرتغال في فضيلة الطاعة... وتأملات روحية ذات صلة.
