يتّسم إيمان إغناطيوس بشعورين لا يمكن الفصل بينهما، هما الإندهاش أمام الله، والرغبة في خدمة "جلاله الإلهي"، فمنذ أن استولى المسيح عليه، وهو لا يزال ينهل كل يوم من معين هذا الإكتشاف، وهكذا أصبحت الحقيقة كلّها، في نظره، ينبوعَ "حب مُجلّ" لله.
عن القديس إغناطيوس دي لويولا، يقدم الأب ألبير لُونشان اليسوعيّ "سيرة مختصرة" عن حياته، نقلها إلى العربية الاب فيكتور شِلحت اليسوعيّ؛ ويبدأ الكتاب منذ تاريخ قدوم إغناطيوس العام (1538م) إلى روما ليضع نفسه ورفاقه التسعة في خدمة البابا بولس الثالث والكنيسة.
هذه الرفقة أو الجماعة كان اسمها - كما يشير المؤلف - نفسه وليد الحيرة التي وقع فيها إغناطيوس ورفاقه، فقد تصادق هؤلاء العشرة في أثناء تلقيهم العلوم بباريس، ونذروا الذهاب معاً إلى القدس... حالت الظروف دون ذلك ووضعوا أنفسهم في تصرف البابا ولم يكن في نيتهم تأسيس رهبانية جديدة.... وسموا أنفسهم "رفقة يسوع".
في ضوء ما تقدم يتتبع المؤلف المعاناة التي لاقاها إغناطيوس ورفاقه، وما فعلوه في سبيل المسيح والسير على خطاه، كما يضم الكتاب صفحات من كتاب "الرياضات الروحية" الذي استشهد به إغناطيوس في دفاعه عن نفسه أمام الكنيسة، أليس هو القائل: "أعطني حبك ونعمتك، فهذا يكفيني"، هذا هو سرّه، ولكن مَن تُرى هذا الإنسان الذي اقتاده الله إلى قمة القداسة؟...
