لقد أكد العديد ممن تعمقوا في دراسة التراث الشعبي أن الابداعات الشعبية الحاضرة أو القريبة لا يتسنى لأحد فهمها الا من خلال النظر اليها من بعيد، وسبر غور الغريب، وأن ادراك الخاص يتعذر فهمه واستشفاقه الا في إطار معرفة النواميس والقونين التى تتحكم فى العام الشائع.
ولما كان الشعب العربي الفلسطيني ومازال يمثل تركيبة حضارية ذات طبقات ثقافية سميكة متميزة بالتفاعل تراكمت بعضها فوق بعض منذ بدء التاريخ.
غدا البحث عن دراسة وتحليل الملامح الشخصية الفلسطينية مطمحا نتوق للتعرف عليها والذى هي في الحقيقة دراسة ليست بالهينة عندما نريد التوغل في البحث عن خصائص هذه الطبقات ومميزاتها وما اندثر منها من الزمن ومن بقى منها خالدا تاركا بصماته وملامحه المتمثلة في حضارة هذا الشعب كما هي واضحة في نشاطه المادى والروحي وشخصيته المتطورة عبر تاريخه المديد.
مؤكدين خلال هذه الدراسة أن تراثنا ليس شيئا عفى عليه الزمن واندثر ما أنه ليس شيئا للتاريخ والمتحف فقط، بل هو فى الحقيقة سجل عبقرية هذه الأمة. وهو كذلك القوة الدافعة لاعطاء الأمة شعورا ومطمحا للوحدة والديمومة.
تأكيد لقول السيد "ريل" بأنه ينبغي ألا تقتصر الدراسة على مجرد احصاء ظواهرها بل يجب أن تتعدى ذلك إلى ادراك فلسفة الشعب الذى يرتبط كل الارتباط بتاريخه وظروفه البيئية.
فكان هذا الأسلوب الذى نرجو أن نوفق في تطبيقه مع موضوعنا "ملامح الشخصية الفلسطينية من خلال أمثالها الشعبية". متبعين المنهاج الفولكلوري الحق الذى لا يكتفي بجمع النصوص الشعبية ومنها الأمثال الشعبية قثط بل يتحداه للخوض فى اكتشاف أعماقه لتبيان واقع "المثل" وتفسير كنهه للوصول الى حقيقته الداخلية.
ولعل هذه الدراسة "ملامح الشخصية الفلسطينية من خلال الأمثال الشعبية تمثل اسهاما متواضعا فى رسم ملامح الشخصية العربية الفلسطينية كما جاءت فى أمثاله والتى قمنا بتبويبها دينيا واجتماعيا وتاريخيا وسياسيا وكذا نفسيا كما سيتضح متمنين بذلك تعميق الانتماء والحفز على البحث عن هذا التراث من منابعه الأصلية مما يعزز الاعتزاز بهذه الشخصية.
لذا اتخذت من بؤر التراث المحلية داخل مدننا وقرانا ميدانا للدراسة متجها للمجالس لآخذ منهم أمثالهم الشعبية التى غالبا ما التقطها وهى تصدر عنهم أثناء أحاديثهم وبحث قضاياهم دون تكلف، مما أتاح لى الفرصة لتفهم مغزاها ومعناها وهى تخرج على سجيتها من أفواههم فى مناسباتها الطبيعية.
