يعتبر هذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا مرجعاً شاملاً عن كوكب الشرق في كل جوانب حياتها وفنها على السواء... إلى حد أنه يحتوي على نصوص أشهر أغانيها، والمقامات الموسيقية التي تم تلحين هذه الأغاني على أساسها. وبتشكل عام يقع هذا الكتاب في خمسة أجزاء يتناول الجزء الأول منه حياة وأعمال كوكب الشرق منذ البدايات الأولى وحتى وفاتها مطعماً ببعض آرائها بخط يدها منسوخة من مذكراتها الشخصية مثل رأيها في الفن والذي كتبت فيه تقول:"الفن وتذوق الفن يجمع ويوحد مشاعر الناس... وقد يختلفون من التعبير ولكن في النهاية تجمعهم هذه الصفة... الفن والإحساس بالفنان...".
أما الجزء الثاني من الكتاب فجاء تحت عنوان"شخصية" أم كلثوم وأسرار الفن البديع"مستعرضاً" كيف كان الإحساس لديها عميقاً إلى أبعد الحدود فكانت تدخل في أعماق المعاني تتفهما وتدركها وتحسها وتنفعل بها... ويتناول الجزء الثالث من الكتاب الأعمال الوطنية لأم كلثوم ويعتبرها بمثابة صوت العقل للثورة عندما كان عبد الحليم حافظ صوت القلب لها ويعظم دورها الكبير الذي لعبته بعد النكسة عندما راحت تغني داخل الحدود وخارج الحدود رافعة صوتها باسم وطنها. ويستعرض الجزء الرابع الأغاني الدينية لأم كلثوم مشيراً إلى أن نجاحها في أداء الأغنية الدينية مرتبط إلى حد كبير بنشأتها البسيطة على تقاليد القرية... أما الجزء الخامس فضم أفلام أم كلثوم وأسماء شعراء أغنياتها وملحنيها وبعض لقطات عن هذه الأفلام. وأخيراً نجد ألبوم الذكريات ويتضمن حوالي 21 صورة من الصور النادرة في مسيرة أم كلثوم الفنية والشخصية.
