التحكيم ليس بظاهرة قانونية حديثة، وإنما هو نظام قديم يضرب بجذوره في بطون التاريخ واكتسب طابعاً تجارياً دولياً في العصر الوسيط ثم فقد هذا الطابع بسبب الحروب التي استعرت بين الدول الكبرى في القرنين السادس عشر والسابع عشر، ثم أخذ يسترده بالتدريج حتى عنيت الاتفاقيات الدولية بالتحكيم من بدايات القرن العشرين باعتباره وسيلة مناسبة لفض منازعات التجارة الدولية، وأخذت هذه الاتفاقيات تسري إلى أن بلغت أهمية التحكيم في هذه المنازعات مبلغاً كبيراً وسمي هذا التحكيم "بالتحكيم التجاري الدولي"، وقسم هذا الكتاب إلى فصل تمهيدي وستة أبواب كالتالي:-
الباب الأول: إتفاق التحكيم التجاري، الباب الثاني: إجراءات التحكيم، الباب الثالث: القانون الواجب التطبيق على موضوع النزاع، الباب الرابع: حكم التحكيم وطرق الطعن فيه وبطلانه، الباب الخامس: حجية أحكام التحكيم وتنفيذها، الباب السادس: أهم موانع تنفيذ أحكام التحكيم التجاري الدولي والدفع بعد التجارية والدفع بعدم القابلية للتحكيم والدفع بالنظام العام.
