هذا الثبت، هو في الأصل إجازة مطوّلة كتبها المؤلف أحمد بن قاسم البوني ليجيز - بطلب من تلميذيه وولده أحمد الزّوروق، ورفيقه محمد بن علي القسنطيني ثم البوني. وقد عدّد المؤلف في هذه الإجازة شيوخه وأسانيد الكتب الستة وبعض المصنفات المتداولة في العلوم، ثم ذكر ما أخذه عن كل شيخ من كتب في مختلف العلوم ثم عددها وقد تنوعت بين كتب الحديث، والفقه، والنحو وغيرها من الفنون.
بعد ذلك، يسرد المؤلف أسماء مصنفاته التي فاقت المائة وتعددت بين منثور ومنظوم إلى أن يختم بوصيّة نافعة للتلميذين.
وفي ثنايا كل هذه الفصول ينثر المؤلف من فوائده ونوادره بل ومن غرائبه، هذه الفوائد التي تنوعت بين معلومات هامة عن حياة المؤلف وبالخصوص العلمية منها، مما استأثر بذكرها هذا الثبت، أو معلومات عن بعض معاصريه ومشايخه؛ أفكارهم، إنتاجهم، وأخلاقهم، مما لا نجدها في كتب التراجم، أو عن عصره أي الحياة العلمية فيه والكتب المتداولة، والتواصل العلمي بين المشرق والمغرب ونحو ذلك.
ولعل كل هذا جعل حافظ المغرب الشيخ عبد الحيّ الكتّني يقول وقد اطلع على هذا الثبت أو الإجازة: "اشتملت على فرائد وغرائب".
