صلاح مصطفى سالم (1920 - 1962)، ضابط مصري، ولد في سبتمبر 1920 في مدينة سنكات شرق السودان، حيث كان والده موظفا هناك. أمضى طفولته هناك، وتعلم في كتاتيب السودان. وهو الأخ الأصغر لجمال سالم عندما عاد إلى القاهرة مع والده تلقى تعليمه الابتدائي، ثم حصل على البكالوريا، وتخرج في الكلية الحربية سنة 1940. تخرج في كلية أركان الحرب سنة 1948، وشارك مع قوات الفدائيين التي كان يقودها الشهيد أحمد عبد العزيز.
تعرف على جمال عبد الناصر أثناء حصاره في الفالوجة، وانضم إلى الضباط الأحرار، وكان عضوا في اللجنة التنفيذية لهذا التنظيم، وعندما قام الضباط الأحرار بحركتهم في يوليو 1952 كان صلاح في العريش، وسيطر على القوات الموجودة هناك. وما عُرف عن صلاح سالم شدته وحزمه في أي قضيه تخص الثورة .

هذا الكتاب المهم عن "سياسة مصر العسكرية إزاء حروب الشرق الأوسط"، الذي كتبه اللواء دكتور محمد صلاح سالم، الذي شغل منصب مدير أكاديمية ناصر العسكرية العليا، وقدم للمكتبة العسكرية العديد من الكتب والدراسات المختلفة، وحصل على عدد من الأوسمة والأنواط العسكرية.
والكتاب يتكون من ثلاثة أبواب، تناول المؤلف في الباب الأول منها الأهمية الجغرافية والسياسية لمنطقة الشرق الأوسط.
كما تناول المؤلف المتغيرات الخارجية لدول منطقة الشرق الأوسط، وعلى رأسها قضية المياه.
وتعرض المؤلف في الباب الثاني للحروب في منطقة الشرق الأوسط.
واختتم الكتاب بالباب الثالث الذي تحدث فيه عن قضايا المياه في المنطقة وحروب المستقبل.
والكتاب على هذا النحو يقدم صورة بانورامية لنزعات الشرق الأوسط وموقف السياسة المصرية منها، ويعد عملاً موسوعياً بقلم باحث متخصص قدير.
