هذا الكتاب هو مسح تاريخي للصراع العسكري في الشرق الأوسط مع تركيز خاص على مساهمة القوات الجوية خلال 60 عاماً، منذ اندلاع الحرب العالمية الثانية حتى اليوم. تنقسم هذه الدراسة إلى قسمين، القسم الأول به خمسة فصول، الأول تعريف لطبيعة ومقومات القوات الجوية. يليه تحليل للأدوار التي أسهمت فيها القوات الجوية في شمال إفريقيا خلال الحرب العالمية الثانية ثم المصادمات بين قوات الحلفاء وقوات المحور في الصحراء الغربية.
الفصل الثالث، نظرة متفحصة لسبع عمليات كبرى جرت في الشرق الاوسط خلال الستين عاماً الماضية، مع تسليط الضوء على الحروب الجوية. ثم تنتقل الدراسة إلى تحليل عسكري للخلفيات الجغرافية لمنطقة الشرق الأوسط وتأثيرها على سلوك القوات الجوية. أما الفصل الخامس فهو عبارة عن دراسة لسعة التباين التقني وأسباب وجوده بين إسرائيل وجيرانها من العرب وغيرهم. ثم يتبعه فصل يبحث في حالة القوات الجوية التابعة للقوات الرئيسية في المنطقة. يبدأ القسم الثاني بفصل حول الديناميكية الجديدة للحرب الأرضية، وكيفية تأثير التغيرات الجديدة على أدوار القوات الجوية الاعتيادية والتكتيكية.
ويبحث الفصل الثامن بشكل موسع التطورات الحاصلة على جميع نواحي القوات الجوية والتأثيرات التي قد تطرأ عليها في المنطقة. أما الفصل الأخير فهو عبارة عن دراسة تحليلية جغراستراتيجية لمناطق الصراع المحتمل في الشرق الأوسط وإمكانية إعادة النظر في أهداف وطبيعة ومتطلبات القوات الجوية.
