تهيمن على الخطاب الديني مجموعة من الاستراتيجيات الخطابية المكونات البلاغية التي تشكلت وفق النصوص والأنواع التي مثلته وما زالت تمثّله في ثقافتنا العربية الإسلامية. فإذا كانت النصوص النموذجية التي جسّدت هذا الخطاب في القرآن الكريم والأحاديث النبوية الشريفة، فإن تاريخ هذه الثقافة أفرز لنا رصيداً غنياً من النصوص التي أوصلت لنا هذا الخطاب سواء أكانت تنتمي إلى حقول علمية وأنشطة فكرية من قبيل: البلاغة وأصول الفقه وعلوم القرآن والتفسير، أم إلى أنواع خطابية من قبيل: الوصايا والخطب والمناظرات والأشعار والأدعية والمواعظ والأخبار والرسائل وغيرها.
لقد صدرت أعمال هذا الكتاب عن همّ أساس يتمثّل في توسيع دائرة تطبيقات البلاغة واستكشاف امتداداتها في حقول معرفية وأنواع خطابية مختلفة: في الخطابات الفقهية والتفسيرية والفكرية من جهة، وفي الموعظة والرحلة والوصية والمناظرة من جهة أخرى. وبناء عليه لم يكن المقصود بالخطاب الديني هنا النصوص الدينية المقدسة (القرآن الكريم والحديث النبوي الشريف) فقط، بل المقصود أيضاً كل الخطابات الدينية البشرية؛ سواء أأنتجها أصحابها في معرض تفسير القرآن وتأويله، أم في معرض الاجتهاد في إصدار الأحكام الدينية، أم في معرض توصيل مبادئ الدين وتعاليمه واستلهامها.
