هذا الكتاب يلم تدّع بلاغة الحجاج عبر تاريخها الطويل أنها منهج في تحليل الخطابات، وإن كانت تستطيع أن تتباهى بأنها أقدم معرفة بتقنيات الخطاب الإقناعي نمتلكها اليوم، بيد أنه منذ بعثها ونهوضها من جديد في دراسات تضاعف ظهورها بشكل لافت في أواخر القرن العشرين، تبلور عند عديد من البلاغيين المعاصرين وعيٌ بضرورة الإهتمام بتحليل الخطابات من منظور بلاغي حجابي يستثمر المرتكزات الأساس التي بُني عليها الخطاب الإقناعي في البلاغة الأرسطية وإمتدادتها اللاتينية والحديثة، بالإستفادة من نظريات لسانية وأدبية أمدّتها بأدوات وصفية وتفسيرية مكّنتها.
في الواقع، من إقتراح قراءات دقيقة لمختلف أنواع الخطاب الإقناعي، يحاول هذا الكتاب أن يقدم للقار رؤية نظرية فاحصة، ولكنها لا تدعي الشمول، لأهم المبادئ التي قامت عليها بلاغة الحجاج منذ أرسطو حتى اليوم، من منظور باحث معني، بدرجة كبيرة، بتحليل خطابات تداولية وأدبية ظلت مستغلقة على المناهج النقدية ذات المنزع الأدبي الخالص.
