لم أبحث في تاريخ أميرات لبنان إلاّ لأتخذهن مثلاً أضربه عن المرأة اللبنانية القديمة والحديثة؛ وعمّا هي عليه من ذكاء وفطنة، وثقافة وحكمة وبصيرة؛ وما عُرفت به من إقدام على مصاعب الأمور، ومن مشاركة للرجل في أعماله الوطنية والسياسية والعمرانية، حتى أنها، على حد قول الأستاذ "جرجي نقولا باز" فيها: "لم تدع أمراً لم تمدّ إليه يداً وتشغل فيه فكراً، حتى السياسة والسيادة، مجلى الثقافة، أصابت منهما حظاً".
كانت المرأة اللبنانية منذ أقدم العهود، ولا تزال، ذات تأثير عظيم في شتى الحياة اللبنانية، يستوحيها اللبناني في المصاعب ومعقّدات الأمور فتهوّنها عليه، "وتبث في نفسه أجمل الأماني وأسمى الشعور".
وقد عرف اللبناني قدر رفيقته، فأحبّها وأجلّها وأعزّ منزلتها، وما تغنّي الشاعر اليوناني نونوس، في شعره، بمحاسن اللبنانية وآدابها إلاَّ برهان بيّن على أنها استحقت المقام الذي رفعها إليه رجلها اللبناني؛ وحسبنا أن نراجع التواريخ القديمة لنقف على مبلغ إزدهار ثقافتها في عهد الرومان، وعلى ما كان لها من أثر طيب في القوانين التي وضعها الإمبراطور يوستنيانوس، تلك القوانين التي كان للدماغين اللبنانيين الكبيرين: أولبيان وبابينيان، يد بيضاء في إكمالها وتهذيبها.
ومن أسمى آثار المرأة اللبنانية إنتاجها للبنان أدمغته الكبيرة ومشاهيره من رجال دين ودنيا، فلو لم تكن عظيمة لما ولدت عظماء، ولو لم تكن رياً للدماغ لما ولدت تلك الأدمغة الريّا.
وما برحت لبنانيات أيامنا سائرات على نَبالة خطى أمهاتهن وجداتهن، ولنا منهن كواكب لامعات في سماء الثقافة، ومعالجة الشؤون الإجتماعية والإنسانية، وعاملات نشيطات في خدمة وطننا العزيز.
