تخلق هذا الكتاب في جزئين رئيسيين، الأول: عن التأثيرات السوسيوثقافية وتربوية للعولمة، وتأثيراتها على الهوية، من منظور كوني عام، ثم تضيق دائرة المنظور لتتناول تأثيرات العولمة على الهوية العربية والإسلامية، وتحديداً في المخزون التربوي والتعليمي. أما الجزء الثاني فيتناول بصورة أكثر تحديداً مكانة المعلم في عصر العولمة، كأنموذج جلي لتأثيرات العولمة على مكانة السلطات الأبوية. حيث تتم مقاربة سوسيولوجية لمفاهيم المكانة والهيبة والرضا مرجوعاً دوماً إلى دلالة النسبية الثقافية، المؤطرة لكافة أشكال التحليل الثقافي للظواهر الاجتماعية.
...هذا البحث أراد أن يضع أسئلة أكثر مما يعلب أجوبة جاهزة. ولذا فقد يبدو المؤلف متحيزاً ضد العولمة وضد المعلم، بينما الصورة الحقيقية هي أن أداء دور "المتحيز ضد..." يتيح مجالاً لإثارة أسئلة ونقاشات أكثر من تلك التي تأتي في حال "المتحيز مع...". ولذا، أيضاً، حرص المؤلف ألا يغلق النقاش في كل فصل من هذا الكتاب برأيه "الوصفة" التي يعالج بها إشكالات العولمة ومشكلات التعليم.
