على الرغم من مضى ما يزيد عن نصف قرن على حرب السويس1956، فما زال هذا الحدث محل اهتمام المؤرخين والباحثين نظراً إلى ما ترتب عليه من نتائج وتداعيات غيرت مجرى التاريخ، إلى درجة أن أزمة السويس تعد حداً فاصلاً فى التاريخ المعاصر فعندها انتهى عصر الاستعمار الأوروبي ومنها بدأت مرحلة جديدة نالت فيها شعوب العالم الثالث حريتها بعد انفراط عقد الإمبراطورية البريطانية وكذلك الإمبراطورية الفرنسية، وذلك عقب القرار التاريخي بتأميم شركة قناة السويس، الذى أعلن عنه جمال عبد الناصر يوم26 يوليو1956 ليفاجئ العالم بقراره هذا الذى استرد به حق مصر الشرعى فى القناة، التى كان الاستعمار البريطاني قد اغتصبها من الشعب المصرى.
