إني لما رأيت أهل بلدتنا هذه في الكد مجتهدين، وعلى الإشتغال بالحرف معتمدين، مواظبين على ذلك معتضدين، وصاروا إذا رأوا أهل الرفاهية في البلدان، وراحة الرجال فيها والنسوان، استنقصوا أحوالهم، وإزداروا أفعالهم، ظناً منهم بأن الدعة والسكون، أمر فاضل مسنون، كأنهم لم يبلغهم قول الرسول (صلى الله عليه وسلم) حيث يقول: "إن الله لا يحب الفارغ الصحيح، لا في عمل الدنيا ولا في عمل الآخرة"، وقوله (صلى الله عليه وسلم): "أشد الناس حساباً يوم القيامة المكفي الفارغ".
أحببت أن أشرح لهم في هذا الكتاب ما يسلي قلوبهم، وينفس كروبهم، من فضائل الصناعات، وأنها للأنبياء عادات، وأبين فضل الكد في الزراعات، وأن الزرع أفضل المكاسب الطيبات، وهو من أهم فروض الكفايات، إذ به تعيش الحيوانات.
