الشيخ خالد النَّقشبندي من أهم الشخصيات العلمية التي أثرت خلال النِّصف الأول من القرن الثالث عشر الهجري، ليس في حياة دمشق وأهلها فحسبْ، بل وفي المشرق العربي كافة، حتى عدَّه بعض المؤرخين من مجدِّدي القرن، وسُمِّي من أجل ذلك بالمجدِّدي، كما لقَّبه آخرون بذي الجناحَيْن، تشبيهاً له بالطائر الذي يسبح في سماء الإسلام بجناح العلم وجناح التَّصوِّف، أو بتعبير أهل التَّصوُّف: جناح الشريعة، وجناح الحقيقة.
لقد كان الشيخ خالد علاَّمة عصره في علوم الشريعة علماً مبرزاً بين العلماء الأعلام، اشتهر منذ أن نشأ في نواحي السلمانية، وما زال نجمه يعلو في أُفق المشرق حتَّى طبَّق صيته الآفاق، فأقبل عليه المريدون من الأقاصي والأداني ولزموه.
