في هذا الكتاب يتحدث الشيخ عفيف النابلسي عن صلاة الجمعة عند الشيعة في عصر الغيبة، أدلتها، شروطها، وأقوال العلماء حولها.
يبدأ المؤلف بالحديث عن أهمية صلاة الجمعة ويقول: "صلاة الجمعة وظيفة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أو الإمام المعصوم أو الإمام العادل والواجب عليه حضورها شخصياً أو حضور نائب ينوب عليه ليمسك بهذا الحبل الإجتماعي الممدود من السماء إلى الأرض وليكن على رأس هذا التوجه الجماعي الكبير إلى الله تعالى".
بعد ذلك يتطرق المؤلف إلى حكم صلاة الجمعة ويقول: "لا إختلاف بين المسلمين قاطبة في أصل مشروعية صلاة الجمعة ووجوبها... وإذا اكتملت شرائطها المقررة في محلها وجبت إقامتها والسعي إليها..."، وعن رأي العلماء يقول "فقد أجمع فقهاؤنا الأبرار على وجوبها عيناً مع حضور المعصوم عليه السلام أو نائبه الخاص وإقامته لها"، وأن الخلاف "وقع في زمن غيبة الإمام المهدي عليه السلام من حيث عدم وجود إذن عام أو خاص.
من هنا، يستعرض المؤلف وجهات نظر وآراء مفسرين بالمراد من صلاة الجمعة في عصر الغيبة، فيورد رأي العلامة مغنية، وتفسير التبيان للشيخ الطوسي، وتفسير الميزان للعلامة الطبطبائي، وتفسير نور الثقلين، للمحدث الحويزي وآخرون، ثم ينتقل للحديث عما ورد عن أهل البيت عليهم السلام وعلى رأسهم أمير المؤمنين رضي الله عنه "الجمعة واجبة على كل مؤمن".
إلى ذلك يستعرض المؤلف آراء أهل السُّنة في صلاة الجمعة، وآراء العلماء المعاصرين في إقامة صلاة الجمعة، ومنهم الإمام الخميني، والسيد محمد باقر الصدر، والسيد علي السيستاني... وأخيراً خاتمة فيها جملة من التوصيات حول صلاة الجمعة.
